INTERPRETING LITERATURE
Nearing the end of the semester already... Where did the time go? Let's get to work on this portfolio #ilit

The work is complete and the semester is over! Throughout this semester, I have experienced a new understanding of the meaning of "literature." When I came into this class, I expected to read a few novels and write a few essays. I didn't expect to be challenged in my creativity, discovery, or understanding of the arts (let alone my digital literacy!) I was surprised to see how different this course is than others I've taken. I've made video projects before, but never with Camtasia. In this class, I was challenged to learn a new software, wrestle with poetry and creatively interpret it, understand graphic novels, and reconsider what it means to study literature. At the end of this course, I can wholeheartedly say that I have been challenged, and I have enjoyed the process. I now interpret literature more broadly, eagerly considering what else can have literary properties and can be created. I have enjoyed using my creativity in different media, and I am pleased to share my work with you.
POETRY
"Dream Deferred" inspired more than "A Raisin in the Sun"... MLK's infamous "Dream Speech". I wonder how it could inspire UNC students #iLit

After a few weeks wrestling with my poetry essay things finally clicked! Glad to be done, but happier with the process and the outcome #ilit

E-POETRY
"To interpret a text is not to give it a meaning, but on the contrary, to appreciate what plural constitutes it" #ilit

No country for old men... because they all die? I'm kidding, but that was an intense movie #ilit

THOUGHTS ON WATCHMEN:
As I mention in my portfolio video, the theme of this class for me became defining and broadening the scope of literature. I came into this class thinking very narrowly about literature. I thought that the term literature only applied to novels. I'd never even read a graphic novel until this course. I'm so glad I did! Reading Watchmen was one of the discoveries I had along the way about art, literature, and storytelling. Once I got used to the medium, I loved the visual representation of action and characters in Watchmen. I began to think of it more like a movie than a book. When I thought of it as a motion picture, I wondered why films couldn't be classified as literature, too. Then I thought, maybe it can! This has been revolutionary as I consider the projects I've done in this class and the way I think about literature. Literature becomes even more fascinating when you broaden the scope to include poetry, film, graphic novels, art and other forms of expression!
