E-poem Drafts

Use the program Camtasia to create an e-poem. Camtasia will serve two functions: 1) it will provide the editing tools for composing the poem and 2) it will allow you to perform actions and capture materials on the screen to be used in the poems.

To get a sense of these possibilities, you can check out some simple screen performances:

As you create your poem, I encourage you to use the screen as a canvas to create a multimedia performance. In fact, if you find that screen performane is to your liking, you can create your e-poem with this technique.

In addition to potentially performing and capturing materials, you will do much of your composing using Camtasia.

For the assignment itself, you can translate a poem to the screen or compose your own poem. You can use any materials available on your screen as well as sound, voice, etc.

Seek to really deploy the Camtasia program elements, using animations, opacity, movement, sound, etc. to develop a piece of electronic art.

After you have uploaded your videos to YouTube or Vimeo, upload the video to our class site using the e-poetry content type. Be sure to add an image for slideshows. (I will give a demonstration in class.)

As you develop these poems, pay particular attention to the concerns of sound and of the viewer's attention.

Complete your e-poems and post them to the Web site by February 16th.

Due date:

Assignment Description:
The core of the e-poetry project, this assignment asks students to either take an existing poem or to compose a poem of their own, and then to repurpose the text as an e-poem. Because the basics of the video editor have been covered in class, the assignment does not provide step-by-step instructions. Instead, it offers an open-ended prompt, assuming that students will use the project to emulate some of the e-poetry samples covered in class.
